We offer several au pair insurances of different insurance companies. We have sufficient knowledge of these products to tell you which insurance meets your needs best. It is common that your (future) host family arranges this insurance on your behalf.
What is covered by an Au pair insurance?
There are some differences between the several au pair insurances we offer. Depending on the chosen cover, the insurances provide you cover for:
- emergency medical expenses. For example when you break a leg during your stay in The Netherlands. But also when you are on a vacation to Italy and you need to visit a hospital.
- luggage. This is useful when one of your bags is stolen on your way to The Netherlands.
- liability. Personal liability means that you need to pay for the damage you caused. Usually this applies to belongings of another person. For example, while you are cleaning the kitchen you drop a pan on the cooking hot plate of your host family. They want you to pay for the damage caused (they say you are liable). If you are insured, the insurance company will likely pay for the damage.
- extra expenses (for example; extra travelling expenses when due to the serious illness of a close relative). Unfortunately someone in your family could get really sick or die. When this happens, you might want to return home. An insurance could offer you a ticket home.
An au pair insurance must usually be purchased by the host family and prior to the au pair’s departure from their home country. This way it is guaranteed that the au pair is insured for her entire stay abroad.
