Which benefits are offered by the insurance?
Medical expenses in The Netherlands. The au pair could get ill during her stay outside the home country. Both on the trip to The Netherlands and back to the home country something could happen that requires medical treatment. And of course during the stay in The Netherlands she needs to be covered for medical costs to prevent a financial problem as a result of medical treatment.
SOS costs. Think about costs related to medical evacuation, rescue and search. But also extra expenses in case the au pair needs to return home after she has died. The expenses to arrange the transportation of the remains will be covered.
Personal accidents. This insurance takes care of a remuneration after an accident. The insurer provides a payment when the au pair dies or becomes permanently invalid after an accident.
Liability. Imagine that the au pair causes damage to someone else or someone else's belongings. The au pair could be hold liable. The insurer will cover the financial consequences.
Luggage. This insurance covers the belongings the au pair takes with her to The Netherlands. Luggage is insured for theft, loss or damage.
Legal assistance. With this, the au pair can use legal aid in certain situations. The policy conditions describe the legal conflicts in which the au pair can get legal assistance.
For whom is the insurance made?
The insurance is meant for foreign au pairs (and students) in The Netherlands. The maximum age is 29 years old. That means that the au pair can apply for the insurance as long as the au pair is not older then 29 years old. The maximum insurance period is 5 years.
Which cover should I choose?
There are 3 modules in this package, Medical expenses (including SOS), Dental and a Package insurance. The Package insurance contains the following insurances: liability, personal accidents, luggage, household content and legal assistance.
It is advisable to apply for the Healthcare so the au pair is insured for unforseen for medical expenses. Also in the period that the au pair is in The Netherlands and does not have a Dutch Health Insurance (basisverzekering). The Healthcare insurance also gives cover when the au pair is on a trip.
The health insurance has 2 options, they are called Standard and Extended. In the document with benefits you can see the difference between Standard and Extensive. You also have to choose a deductible of €150,- or €0,- per year. When the Dutch Health Insurance (Basisverzekering) is arranged, it is possible to arrange a discount. Once the discount is applied to the health insurance, this provides an additional coverage.
The Dental insurance gives a cover for 350,- per year and can be applied for by people who are older then 18 years. This module can only be applied for in combination with the health insurance.
It is possible to buy only the Package insurance, but then there is no cover for medical expenses and the au pair is not completely insured when when she travels in Europe. The SOS insurance is included in the Package insurance.
Where is the insurance valid?
The Health insurance is valid for a maximum of 50 days when the au pair is in another country then The Netherlands. If cover in USA is required then you need to contact the insurance company to arrange this.
